Pandemic Pieces In 2020, I was just completing a series of small sand castles. I was not quite finished with carrying out all of my ideas, when the pandemic forced me to work from home. As pottery is not transferable, I had to relinquish my clay explorations for the time being. One of my unfinished ideas was to find some kind of background for these sculptures. For years I had been crocheting fiber landscapes and I thought that I could use this medium to create a type of backdrop for the sand castles. Crocheting does not have the hand- in-the- mud quality that clay has, but it made up for it in scale and color. The first finished tapestry excited me. It complemented and reflected the sand sculpture perfectly. I made four more tapestries; it took three years to make five of them.
